Certain State Lands are vested in the Local Authorities : - 
a)    Following applications for land by Local Authorities for public places; and 
b)    Following surrender of the land to the State for public places by landowners,  upon  subdivision  of  parent lots and land

       conversion. 

 

1.  What is Public Place ?

A public place includes every public highway, street, road, square, court, alley, lane, bridle way, foot way, parade, wharf, jetty, quay or other place of general resort, admission to which is obtained by payment or to which the public have access. 


2.  Why are Public Places Vested in Local Authorities?

Public places are vested in Local Authorities for the purpose of upkeeps and maintenance in accordance with Section 99(1) of the Local Authority Ordinance, 1996. 

 

3.  What are the Important Aspects of Vesting of Land for Public Places?

The proposal has to be agreed and accepted by the Local Authority with the support of the Resident where necessary.
