GEODETIC SURVEY SECTION : EDM Test Base

The main test base is located at Petra Jaya along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Ya'akub in Kuching.

The test base was designed based on Original Schwendener which consisted of 6 baselines with a total of 21 observations, covering the whole range of the unit measurement (10 meter) for short-range EDM instruments.

It has seven base stations and the length from first base to the last base is approximately 1021.5m.

Designed for carrying out calibration of additive constant and determination of scale error in EDM instrument.

To ensure maximum precision of the results, constrained centering method is essential in the setting-up of EDM unit and the prisms.

All 21 distance measurements may be carried out within less than 2 hours.

Test bases are also available in Sibu, Miri, Limbang and Bintulu, used for EDM calibrations; the lengths of these baselines are not absolute.
